Size, metabolic health and genetics

I am often asked about the impact of genetics on size.

So, here is the answer. We can test for a number of genetic SNPs (variances in the behaviour of genes) which impact size and metabolic health. (Do remember that size does not tell us about health. For more detailed information, read the previous post, “But what if health isn’t all about weight?”).

I use the Lifecode Gx genetic panels, which are brilliant. Lifecode Gx report on genetic SNPs which can be favourably impacted by diet and lifestyle interventions. There is no bad news, just clear guidance as to where your personal potholes are situated. Then we can begin to fill them in. I interpret the reports for my clients with the benefit of detailed knowledge about their food intake, digestion, sleep, blood sugar control and energy levels. Putting this information together with the genetic panels results in a truly personalised action plan, which can be life-changing. Knowledge really is power.

The Lifecode Gx Metabolics report is excellent and speaks to a large number of genetic SNPs which impact:

  • the size of your appetite,

  • your risk of overeating,

  • how quickly you feel satisfied when eating,

  • which weight loss strategies are more likely to be effective for you,

  • the extent of your preference for sweet and high fat foods,

  • your metabolic rate,

  • your blood sugar control and risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes,

  • how efficient your metabolism of fat is,

  • how much fat you store,

  • your risk of obesity,

  • your ability to break down cholesterol, and

  • your ability to rejuvenate your hair, skin and nerves after injury and during aging.

You get a wealth of information when you run the Metabolics report because it also reports on genetic SNPs which impact cardiovascular health and the longevity genes, FOXO3, AMPK and the sirtuins.

In short, this report tells you how to work with your genetics to increase both your life span, how long you live, and your health span, how long you stay healthy for.

My Metabolism and Optimal Aging package costs £695. It includes the cost of the Metabolics report, my analysis of your genetics in the context of your intake forms and a 75 minute appointment with me to go through your report, so that you fully understand how best to work with your genes to optimise your health.
